Shots were fired at the back of a Kelowna elementary school sometime over the weekend.
Police were called to South Rutland Elementary Monday morning after receiving a report of mischief at the
Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said RCMP conducted a full examination of the scene, and recovered evidence at the scene to confirm damage is consistent with a small calibre firearm.
Damage was contained to a metal rolling shutter which covers a classroom window at the rear of the school.
O’Donaghey said police stress the shot was fired sometime over the weekend when no one was believed to be inside.
“There is no information at this time to suggest that the damage to the school was a targeted incident, nor is there any evidence or information that leads us to anticipate any further incidents,” said O’Donaghey.
“Regardless, police are treating the matter seriously, and working closely with the Central Okanagan School District.”
He said the investigation, including a canvass of the neighbourhood, is continuing.
“Police are looking for any additional information which will help them identify the individual or individuals responsible for this careless mischievous act.”
